Last Night in Landau

I am so sad to be leaving my German family.  I cannot believe I have been here two weeks already, and now, like a little bird, I must fly on my own.  That means I have to rent a car and drive on the Autoban! OMG!  But it will be worth it because I am going to a FABULOUS training site for Waldkindergarten teachers in Soonwald about two hours north of Landau... for me driving it will be about three hours.

These photos were taken from the top of a 13th century church bell tower.  The view was beautiful.  It was great to see the town (and nearby villages) from a bird's eye  view, where I could point out the places I had been.  As the sun sets in the west you can see a castle.  This is pretty cool, but what makes it better is that it the same castle that the last Waldkindergarten was near.  So, yeah, I, an American, actually biked that far.  TA DA!!!!

So, let's discuss the venue for my last night.  It was a privilege to be able to actually see the inside of this amazing structure.  The craftsmanship and brilliance that went into this bell tower is remarkable.  I know, I know, I am the queen of hyperbole, but really, this place was awesome, hand cut slate tiles, dovetail joints,  just everything.
Goodbye

I am so sad to say good bye to my German sister from another mister.  She has been the best tour guide, language instructor, fitness coach, meal planner, pusher-out-of-my-comfort-zoner.  You name it, she has done it.   Thank you a million times over!  Kismet is the word that comes to mind.  We met for dinner in Charleston only ONE night and it is just one of those things.

We had a farewell dinner in the apartment at the very top of the tower. The ceilings were only about 6 feet high, and I felt like a giant. The apartment was for the "watchman" who would live there and watch for fires and alert the city.   Truly a special night.

    Who I am

I am an Associate Professor at the College of Charleston and a former public school teacher of 15 years and now the Department Chair of Teacher Education,  This blog began as a documentation for my sabbatical in 2018. It was a journey through Germany  Netherlands.

Since then I have visited Forest Schools in England, Copenhagen, the USA and Scotland. I investigate how the arts are infused in their daily curriculum.

A side bar- I feel like I am playing pokemon.. I got to get them all. Each location is so different, but they alll have the same concept. Learning through play and a deep appreciation for nature. And the arts are a serious part of each location as well.
    DANKE!!!!
