Correction!
I have to apologize. I was incorrect in my previous posts before. German soccer is not called futball, it is called fußball.  The letter ß is like double s in English so it is pronounced fooss-bol.  Duh, like our foosball tables in the US.  AHHHH It is all making sense now. Whew! Now that that is cleared up, we can move on... Los Geht's! Thanks to kickfoosballtables.com for the visual assistance of the foosball table.  BTW they have these in Germany too.

On to something fun- like wine country!
Let's discuss that Landau is a boarder area near France and is located in the heart of wine country.  All the hiking trails, bike trails and Waldkindergarten are surrounded by vineyard after vineyard.  It is so beautiful, and tasty.
My Hosts with the Most
There are two very fabulous people in Germany who have taken me on quite and adventure.  I am very grateful to them and their hospitality.  Most of all thank you for teaching me so much about this amazing country full of history. Hooray for Sabina & Leo!

Off to the Castle We Go!!!
So when you have a free afternoon what do you do?  Well, we decided to go to a medieval castle that was once occupied by the black knight.  The fascinating thing about this castle is that it was carved out of the mountain top, then the part you see above the trees was constructed on top of the rock using brinks, wood, and plaster.  We even had the opportunity to walk through the tunnels but candlelight.  For those of you who are Young Frankenstein fans, all I kept thinking was, "Put za candle back."  One great thing that nearly made me squeal was the view... yeah that is France over that ridge.  Wait, what? FRANCE!!! as in ZUT ALORS!  That is FRANCE!

Let's go to France!
So, since we happened to be in the neighborhood, we you know, went to France.  No big deal... wait, strike that, reverse it... HOLY COW, yeah its a big deal.  Well to me it was.  I just love the fact that in the EU you can travel between countries without a boarder check.  It was like driving from Indiana to Illinois... but with vineyards and rolling hills and mountains.

Napoleon Was Here
Well, at least his soldiers were.  These benches are throughout France as a location for soldiers to sit or rest their rucksack and weapons.  He also had trees planted along side the road so they would have shade as they marched.

Visiting a Village in France
Little town it's a quiet village. Every day like the one before. Little town full of little people, waking up to say. Bonjour!Bonjour!Bonjour!Bonjour!Bonjour!  Yep, Beauty and the Beast opening song kept coming to my head.  I am serious it looked just like the town Belle lived in... I kept looking for Gaston, but no luck.

Check out this Gothic Church
Beautiful, right? I am in awe. Look at that Gargole... Seriously, check him out!  Clinging to the the edge, screaming like Kevin from "Home Alone" and the bonus is it is functional... it's a gutter... can you imagine what that looks like in action?  Sooooo Cool!

What a Great Day
I have to sometimes pinch myself thinking, "am I really here?"  This was one of the sweet discovery days that was not planned, but that just came about.  I am looking forward to tomorrow where I will visit yet another Waldkindergarten.

Hagar the Horrible
I just thought I'd share this with you because I think Hagar the Horrible is even better in German.  Am I right?  Genau (Exactly)!

    Who I am

I am an Associate Professor at the College of Charleston and a former public school teacher of 15 years and now the Department Chair of Teacher Education,  This blog began as a documentation for my sabbatical in 2018. It was a journey through Germany  Netherlands.

Since then I have visited Forest Schools in England, Copenhagen, the USA and Scotland. I investigate how the arts are infused in their daily curriculum.

A side bar- I feel like I am playing pokemon.. I got to get them all. Each location is so different, but they alll have the same concept. Learning through play and a deep appreciation for nature. And the arts are a serious part of each location as well.
    DANKE!!!!
